The Next Big Fanning

Blessed with an abundance of talent and ambition, Elle Fanning is following hard on the heels of her famous sister, Dakota.

We seem to be in a time of the child star. There are always children in movies, of course, always parents pushing or supporting or indulging them, but it is not so often that a juvenile actor is up for an Oscar as Hailee Steinfeld, the 14-year-old star of the Coen Brothers' True Grit, is this year. If she doesn't win for her steely, measured performance - the central role in the film, for which she is nominated as Best Supporting Actress - it will be a travesty of justice the kind her character, Mattie Ross, might seek to avenge.

But there are others - the Australian Kodi Smit-McPhee, son of an actor, whose career took off in Romulus, My Father when he was 10; Chloe Moretz, his co-star in the vampire film Let Me In, who had her break at 12 in Kick-Ass - and there are the Fanning sisters, Dakota and now Elle. Read More
