Best-selling Author Jeff Kinney Talks Diary of a Wimpy Kid

September 07, 2010

Jeff Kinney originally wanted to become a cartoonist and had a regular comic strip in his college newspaper.

But then he changed direction and started work on Diary of a Wimpy Kid. It first appeared online in daily instalments before he signed a multi-book deal in 2006.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid hit book stores in 2007 and was followed by Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw and Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days. They have all topped bestseller lists; there are 33 million copies in print and the books have been translated into 33 languages. In 2009, Kinney was named one of Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People in the World.

The first book has been turned into a 20th Century Fox film, which was released in the UK last month, and an adaptation of the second book is scheduled to come out on March 25, 2011.

Here, Jeff discusses the book, the film, what it means to be a wimpy kid and why he believes his stories resonate with youngsters across the globe. Read More
