Virginia Davis McGhee, the Original Face of Disney Dies

Virginia Davis McGhee, a decade-long resident of Westport and the face of Disney before Mickey Mouse was created, died Saturday at the age of 90.

To those who knew her, she was a caring mother who would almost always downplay the fact that during the 1920s, she starred in more than a dozen short films as the titular character in such shorts as Alice's Wild West Show and Alice's Wonderland.

"She never liked to brag or boast about the Disney connection," said Margaret McGhee-Sufke, the eldest of two surviving daughters, from her home in Idaho.
