    Public Schooling in CA Help?

My daughter has siblings. I know nothing about the elementary schools in CA or the High Schools. Does anyone have any ideas on good schools or should I homeschool all my kids when the time comes? If i homeschool does anyone know if there is anything out there where the teacher comes to your home?

    Thanks Melissa Cosner

     Hi Melissa,

www.GreatSchools.net is a great resource for comparing schools in different areas.  It is hard to give you any real solid advice since CA is such a huge state and full of different demographics and districts.  If you children work often, homeschooling might be a great option for you. They differ quite a bit depending on which program you choose.  We have a list of reputable ones we recommend under "Education".

     Hope this helps!

     Hi!

I am a parent and noticed your question about the schooling in California.  My son is "homeschooled" through Connections Academy (www.connectionsacademy.com) which is actually a virtual public school.  This is a great program because he is technically enrolled in a public school and receives all the curriculum free but stays home.  All his daily lessons come up online and much of his testing is submitted online.  He is assigned a homeroom teacher that calls regularly and is also always available by phone or webmail to answer any questions.  They work with your child to make sure the program fits their individual needs.  My son just completed his second year with Connections and we are very pleased with his progress and with the quality of education he is receiving.  There are several child actors that use this program.  We live in Orange County, CA but the program is also available to residents of Los Angeles County.  Last year the program stopped at 11th grade but this coming year they will be adding 12th grade.  Hope this was helpful.
