Has anyone heard of Tristar Entertainment Network?

I brought my daughter to meet with them last week and they seemed legitimate. They call themselves a "Talent Development Company" and say they are not an agency. I'm not familiar with this term and haven't been able to find anymore info on them. They did not ask for any money and said they would get paid directly for any jobs they get my daughter.

They were very interested in my daughter and gave us a commercial script and asked us to come back for a reading next week. Any knowledge, experience or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Kendra, Is Tristar asking for money? If so what connections do they have that will benefit the talent they are offering to teach your child? Who and what are their connections? Is Tristar connected to agents? Have you lookied them up on IMBD? How long have they been around? Good Luck, Carl Sprayberry

There is a definite difference between an agent, a manager and a talent developer.  In California, talent agencies are regulated by the state and work on a commission basis.  Managers, who also work on a commission basis, are not regulated but gain more credibility when they join an organization like the Talent Managers Association.  Talent Developers generally have the goal of helping their clients gain representation (Agents or Managers).  If you do not have representation, your main goal should be to gain reprsentation (rather than focusing on gaining auditions).  Hopefully this development company would have that as their focus and, yes, it is good that no money is taken up front.

    Hmmmmm,

Columbia Pictures use to have a division called Tristar Entertainment that was a film production/distribution company, but based on your notes, It does not sound like the same company.

I have had a very good experience with Tristar Entertainment Network. My daughter was picked up by an active management firm in Hollywood through their recomendation. We have been on several auditions, so far. Though we have yet to land any major jobs, the exposure has been at a whole new level than we were experiencing before. I would highly recommend this firm from our experience.
