Film Review: ‘The Spiderwick Chronicles’

The Spiderwick Chronicles is based on a series of children's books.  The story centers on young Jared Grace (Freddie Highmore), whose family moves into the spooky old house of Arthur Spiderwick.  Spiderwick was an authority on goblins, fairies and oger's.  He hid his book of findings in the house, now evil goblins are itching to steal it and destroy the world.

British actor Freddie Highmore does a very convincing American accent and does double duty playing Jared Grace, who's still angry and resentful about his parent's recent divorce, and Simon, Jared's milder twin brother.  Highmore put in another stellar performance as he makes each twin Grace brother a sperate and fully fleshed-out individual.  Along with their older sister Mallory (Sarah Bolger, an Irish actress), the pair have moved to a spooky old house in upstate New York that their mother (Mary-Louise Parker) inherited.  Read More
